Gottfried Silbermann Organ, St. Marienkirche / Rötha, Germany (1722) -
    Samples by Brett Milan
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Von der FortunaDownload
Three variations on a secular song. [2:52] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Wenn dich Unglück tut greifen an, BWV 1104Download View Lyrics
The chorale is rather obscure, as is its text. Comfort and reassurance seems to be the quiet goal of this little prelude, played on Man 2 Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4' with chorale sounded on Man 1 Octava 4' + Quinta 1 1/2' coupled to Pedal. [1:15] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort, BWV 1103Download View Lyrics
A most straightforward setting of a chorale associated with a scurrilous text that modern people may want to ignore. Registration: Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4' + Octava 2' + Cymbeln II. [1:18] (A=465) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fantasia in C Major, BWV 570Download
An early piece for manuals alone that is sometimes used prior to weddings. Registration on the orginal St. Marienkirche 1 manual organ is Gedackt 8 and Octava 4. [2:38] (A=465) Midi file available. HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Lobt sei Gott in des Himmels ThronDownload
For one manual ( Gedackt 8' + Octava 4' + Nassat 3' + Octava 2' + Cymbeln II) with Chorale in soprano voice, ad lib pedal note (Subbass + Koppel) added at the end. [1:43] (A=465) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Machs mit mir, Gott, nach deiner Güt, BWV 957Download View Lyrics
Cheerful, even droll acceptance of the inevitable. Registration: Man 1 Principal 8' + Octava 4' + Sufflet 1' + Cymbeln II; Chorale discernible about half way, repeated on Man 2 Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4' + Nassat 3' + Octava 2'; reverts to previous. [2:5] (A=465) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Ach Gott, tu dich erbarmen, BWV 1109Download View Lyrics
In this tiny jewel of a fughetta, very gentle syncopations occasionally interrupt the general Bachian flow. Manual: Principal 8' + Octava 4' + Octava 2' + Quinta 1 1/2; Pedal Subbass 16' + Pedal Koppel. At Ms. 39 there is a chromatic change and increased urgency, underlined by the addition of Cymbeln to the Manual. [2:17] HW1
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Echo Fantasia 3 (Aeolian)Download
A rather forthright fugue-like exposition to begin with, regressing to the softer manual for the echo section, back to the louder sound for some quasi-echo passages a charming hemiola section and then scalar passages in eighth notes and later sixteenth notes, which alternate between right and left hands, with the opposite hand holding long chords. [3:37] Midi file available. HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt, BuxWV 183Download View Lyrics
Chorale on the Manual II full cornet, which usually ends with an elaborate flourish. Accompanied by Manual I Principal 8 + Octava 4', coupled to Subbass 16 in the Pedal. [2:31] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Wir glauben all an einem Gott (after Krebs), BWV 740Download View Lyrics
A setting of a chorale prelude based on the German Creed by J. S. Bach's favorite pupil, Johann Ludwig Krebs. Bach has reworked it considerably. For this performance, Man. 1 and Pedal share the same notes, using Principal 8 and Octava 4 (repeating exposes the lovely Principal by itself). Very few overlaps occurred, even the the double pedal is frequently in the area played by the left hand. They were dealt with the way an actual live player might easily accommodate overlaps, by shortening a few notes. The chorale, slightly ornamented but extremely florid near the end, is played first on the full cornet of Manual 2, then for the repeat with a partial Cornet which leaves out the 4' and 2' pitches. Both fuller sounds resume after the repeat. [3:53] HW1
Scheidemann, Heinrich: Praeambulum No. 5 in D minorDownload
Mostly in four voices with the bottom voice played on the Pedal, dropping out occasionally when the compass is exceeded. Mutopia Project score is available here. [2:37] (A=465) HW1
Walther, Johann Gottfried: Concerto del Signor ManciaDownload
    In four movements for two or 3 keyboards: Allegro played on Man. 1 - Principal 8' + Octava 4' + Quinta 1 1/2' + Sufflet 1' (repeats Man. 2 Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4' coupled to Man. 1 Quinta 1 1/2' + Sufflet 1'); Adagio - "Röckpositiv" played on Man. 2 - Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4', "Oberwerk" played on Man. 1 - Principal 8' + Octava 4' ; Allegro played on Man 1 Principal 8' + Octava 4' + Quinta 1 1/2' + Sufflet 1' + Cymbeln II with Man. 2 Gedackt 8' + Rohrflöte 4' (at end + Nassat 3 + Octava 2') coupled to Pedal Subbass 16'. [9:3] HW1
