Dieter Ott, (2003) House Organ - Samples by Christian Datzko
- Walther, Johann Gottfried: Fuga
- Four voice fugue for single manual. Standard top down exposition with a few rolled chords and a surprising couple of measures of triplets just before
the next to the last entrance of the fugue subject. Impulse reverberation added. Registration: 8' + 4' + 2' + 1'. Temperament: Pitagòric segons
Henri Arnaut de Zwolle (ca. 1400-1466), Compositio timbriae, quod est initium organorum et clavichordiorum, ca. 1440.
[2:37]
HW2
- Pachelbel, Johann: Ricercare in C minor
- A chromatic theme pervades the first two sections, the first of which is played on a combination of Gedackt 8' + Rohrfloete 4' + Prinzipal 2' + Quinte
1 1/3, the second on the 8' and 4' flutes. A perky little theme enters in the third section, here played on 8' Gedackt + 2' Prinzipal. The Phantom
Organist has added some crisp ornamentation and reverberation.
[5:32]
Midi file available.
HW1
- Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Unter der Linden grüne
- Four variations on a secular song. The registrations are playfully varied within to show the flexibility of this delightful instrument. Meantone 5
temperament with 5dB boost in output and 90ft Impulse reverberation added.
[5:34] (A=465)
HW2
- Brahms, Johannes: Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen
- A sublime setting in which the melody hops from voice to voice of the familiar Christmas hymn. Registration: Gedackt 8' + Rohrfloete 4' (echos omit
the 4').
[1:55]
HW1
- Brahms, Johannes: Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen
- A sublime setting in which the melody hops from voice to voice of the familiar Christmas hymn, and in this new version for Hauptwerk 2 testing
reversible stops, the registration is not so subtly varied throughout. Output boosted 8dB but no reverberation added.
[1:54]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Auf meinen lieben Gott, BWV 744
- Straightforward canon between soprano and pedal. Specially adjusted for pull-down pedal. Reverberation of a medium empty room.
[1:4]
HW1
- Guilmant, Alexandre: Noël Écossais (Communion No. 1), (From Opus 60)
- Guilmant's slow tempos are legendary (they're about half as fast as everybody else, if you check the Riemenschneider edition of the Bach's Liturgical
Year). So this rather sing-songy Noël might seem dirgelike if it were not in a reverberant hall. Though written for two manuals, a transposition down
one octave for the Récit. passages allows a slightly different timbre to distinguish them.
[3:26]
HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Canzonetta in G, BuxWV 171
- Two sections in this charming little piece, the first with scurrying repeated notes (Gedackt 8'+ Prinzipal 2' + Quinte 1 1/3), the second a lilting
variation on that theme in 12/8 meter (Rohrfloete 4' is added to the former ensemble).
[2:22]
HW1
- Pachelbel, Johann: Es spricht der Unweisen Mund wohl, 2nd Setting
- Stylishly ornamented fughetta with the chorale sounded in the soprano part throughout. Reverberation of a large occupied hall.
[4:0]
HW1
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, Br IV:01
- The first pieces from Krebs's ClavierÜbung [Keyboard Practice]. Prelude, Fughetta, Choral and Choral alio modo (figured bass realized by
James Pressler). Temperament by Brad Lehman. Output boosted 5dB and 80ft Impulse reverberation added.
[4:23]
HW2
- Pachelbel, Johann: Toccata in C Major (I)
- A simple "touch-piece" for one manual much like an Italian intonation. Were it not for the long-held chords, it would sound equally well on the
harpsichord.
[1:15]
HW1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Partita on Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig, BWV 768
- This partita has more sections than the original hymn. Schweitzer suggests that there were two partitas, one for manuals alone, the other including
pedals. Cleverly adapted for one manual with pulldown pedal and the added reverberation of a large occupied hall. Full names of stops: Gedackt 8',
Rohrflöte 4', Prinzipal 2, Quinte 1 1/3, Oktave 1'. Registrations used: Chorale 8'; Var. I 8'-2'; Var. II 8-4-1 1/3; Var. III 8-2-1; Var. IV 8-4-2;
Vars. V & XI 8-4-2-1 1/3; Vars. VI & X 8-4-2-1 1/3-1; Var VII 8-4; Var. VIII 8-2-1 1/3; Var. IX 4-2. A high bandwidth version (320 KBPS, 39MB file)
is available here.
