L'Orgue des Frères Jullien de Marseille, Roquemaure/Gard, Languedoc, France (1690--historic monument)
    Samples by Prof. Helmut Maier
    Clérambault, Louis-Nicolas: Grand Plein JeuxDownload
The first piece of Suite du Premier Ton for organ is marked "Fort lentement" (Bold/Loud, slow). A detached approach to stepwise motion seemed appropriate. Registration: G,O, Montre 8' + Prestant + Nazard + Doublette + Larigot + Fourniture + Cymbale (basses et dessus as appropriate) coupled to PD Basse 16' + Bombarde 16'. [2:25] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Paduana LachrimaeDownload
    Three variations on a secular dance tune. Var. 1: Trompette 8' + Flûte 4' + Nazard 2 2/3' + Doublette 2' . Var. 2: Montre 8' + Nazard 2 2/3'+ Tierce 1 3/5' + Voix Humaine 8'. Var. 3: Cromorne 8'. Basse et dessus for all except Montre 8. [3:48] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt, BuxWV 183Download View Lyrics
Chorale on the Positiv Cornet, which as usual ends with an elaborate flourish. Other voices on the G.O. Principal 8' + Prestant 4', coupled to Pédale 16'. [2:39] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Grigny, Nicolas De: Fugue (Pleni sunt caeli)Download
Second movement of the Sanctus, for Montre 8' with Pédale added on last note. [1:25] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
    Clérambault, Louis-Nicolas: TrioDownload
The fourth piece of Suite du Premier Ton for organ is marked "Gratieusement" (gracefully). Too high for the conventional 2 manual + Pedal treatment, the top two voices are played on the Récit. Flutes 8' + 4' + Cornet, the bottom on G.O. Montre 8' + Bourdon 8' + Prestant 4' + Nazard 2 2/3' (Basses et Dessus). [2:9] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
    Froberger, J. J.: Canzona VDownload
Divided in three sections, the first cheerful melody in common time is mimicked in 12/8 meter, the return to common time begins with a three measure slightly florid transition and a new cheerful subject which alternates between subdominant and tonic keys and ends with more floridity. [2:35] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Titelouze, Jean: Veni Creator (4e Verset)Download View Lyrics
Conventional fugue-like entrances of chorale in four voices. Registration; Montre 8' + Prestant + Nazard (Basse et dessus) + Doublette (Basse et dessus) + Fourniture on original version. Score typeset and placed in public domain by Gérard Gréco, part of Mutopia Project. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (19.5 MB). [2:56] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Canzonetta in G Major, BuxWV 172Download
4 voice texture throughout, with unusual ending. Score provided by Boris Mudrinic. [2:44] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Scheidemann, Heinrich: Praeambulum No. 4 in D minorDownload
Simple descending passages, sometimes in sixths, allow a magnificent old instrument to speak for itself in its own spacious environs. Mutopia Project score is available here. [1:8] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Canzonetta in G minor, BuxWV 173Download
Two-measure motiv that basically follows the circle of fifths, repeated in all 4 voices without much embroidery. An extra tenor note (A) was added in the last measure to fill out the harmony. Registration: Montre 8' + Prestant 4' + Doublette 2' (Basse et Dessus) + Larigot 1 1/3' (Basse et Dessus). [1:23] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Grigny, Nicolas De: Fugue à [4] (Ave Maris Stella 2)Download
The Schola Cantorum edition rightly points out that, despite the original label as a 5-voice fugue, there are in fact only four. Uses alternate suggested registration (G.O. Montre 8' + Bourdon 8' + Prestant 4' + Flute 4'; Pedal Subbass 16' + built-in coupler to G.O). [2:47] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Wenn mein Stündlein vorhanden istDownload View Lyrics
Standard Pachelbel one-manual (Principal 8' + Flute 4') treatment: fughetta on first phrase of the Chorale, followed by complete statement in the soprano using longer notes, with pedal note added at the end. [4:7] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
    Lully, Jean-Baptiste: Marche RoyaleDownload
Special arrangement for divided keyboard of a modern transcription. The basic idea was to transpose the left hand down an octave using 4', 2; and 1 1/3 stops, allowing the Trumpet, Cromorne, and even Voix Humaine free reign of the right side. In the middle the Montre 8' was added to the left side, giving the effect of a 16' stop. Since the Pedal is permanently coupled to the G.O., some pedal notes were transposed down as well. For ensemble sections the left hand returned to normal. [2:30] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Canzona in G Major, BuxWV 170Download
    In three light-hearted sections played on the Grand Orgue: Common Meter (Bourdon 8' + Flute 4' [B. & D.] + Doublette 2' [B. & D.] + Cymbale 3 R.); 6 / 8 (Bourdon 8' + Doublette 2' [B. & D.] + Larigot 1 1/3' [B. & D.] ) and 3 / 2 (Montre 8' + Octave 4' + Doublette 2' [B. & D.] + Fourniture 3 R. + Cymbale 3 R.) with Pedal Basse 16' added to the end of each. Score courtesy of Ian Dyson. [4:18] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
    Dandrieu, Jean-François: OffertoireDownload
From his Premier livre de pièces d'Orgue (First Organ Book), this score is divided in four sections, marked Gravement, Marqué. Cornet/Positiv and Grand jeu with Pédale. Score courtesy of the Mutopia Project - organ music here. [5:1] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Walther, Johann Gottfried: Concerto del Signor GregoriDownload
    Four movements: Largo: G.O. Montre 8' + Flute 4' (Basse et Dessus) - Allegro G.O. Montre 8' + Prestant 4' + Doublette 2' (Basse et Dessus) - Adagio e staccato G.O. Bourdon 8' + Flute 4' (Basse et Dessus) - Allegro Forte: G.O. Montre 8' + Prestant 4' + Flute 4' (Basse et Dessus) + Doublette 2' (Basse et Dessus) + Larigot 1 1/3' (Basse et Dessus) - Piano Récit. Flutes 8' + 4' (± Cornet) [5:19] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
    Clérambault, Louis-Nicolas: DuoDownload
The third piece of Suite du Premier Ton for organ is marked "Gayement er gratieusement" (happy and gracefully). Registration: RH Récit. Flutes 8' + 4' + Cornet; LH G.O. Montr 8' + Bourdon 8' + Flute 4' (Basses et Dessus). [1:42] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Gott Vater, der du deine Sonn'Download
Four part setting for one manual. Registration: Montre 8' + Prestant 4' + Doublette 2' (Basse et Dessus) + Cromorne 8' (Basse et Dessus) + Fourniture, with Pedal Soubasse 16' at very end. [1:37] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Clérambault, Louis-Nicolas: Basse et Dessus de TrompetteDownload
From Suite 1 for organ, this famous piece illustrates perfectly the use of a divided keyboard. Three sounds are used, which would otherwise require three keyboards: Jeux doux (Bourdon + Flute 4' + Doublette), Basse (Bourdon + Trompette 8'), Dessus (Bourdon + Flute 4' + Nazard + Doublette + Tierce + Cromorne 8'). The Cromorne is not called for in the score. [1:41] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Concerto in B minor, BWV 979Download
Based on an unknown concerto, this multimovement piece ( [Introduction] - Allegro - Adagio - Allegro - [Grave] - Andante - Adagio - Allegro) has a lot of the usual Vivaldi-like conventions (arpeggiation, ascending sequences, unison passages near the end of movements), plus a few unorganistic rolled or repeated chords and would probably be a bit clearer on a harpsichord as intended, but the opportunity to use an early French instrument in unusual ways was too tempting. Pedal ad libs are not part of original score. [12:4] (a1=415 Hz [- 3Cents]) HW1
