F. A. Mehmel Village Church Organ, St. Andreas Church, Nehringen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany (1868) - Samples by Prof. Helmut Maier
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Ach bleib mit deiner Gnade, Op. 65, No. 1
- Charming trio that begins the composer's Opus 65. RH: Great Octave 4' played an octave lower; LH: Hinterwerk Geigen Principal 8' + Flauto Amabile 8' &
4'; PD: Subbass 16' + Gedactbass 8' + Violon 8'.
[2:6]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Aus meines Herzens Grunde, Op. 65, No. 2
- A pastorale written for 3 manuals, registered for two manuals thus: Hauptwerk: Viola di Gamba 8' + Principal 8'; Hinterwerk as Swell: Geigenprincipal
8; Hinterwerk as Choir: Flauto Amabile 8' + 4'; Pedal: Subbass 16' + Violon 8'. At end, Hauptwerk Gedact 8'; Hinterwerk Flauto amabile 8'; Pedal
Subbass 16' + Gedactbass 8'
[2:28]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Alles ist an Gottes Segen (Fughetta), Op. 65, No. 3
- Cheerful setting with a fugue-like beginning but mostly homophonic with dynamically terraced interludes and a harmonically rich final cadence.
Registration: HW Gedact 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' + Octave 4' + Progressio Harmonica 2-3 Fach; Hinterwerk Full (- Geigenprincipal 8' for one echo
passage); Pedal Full.
[0:55]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Es ist das Heil uns kommen her, Op. 65, No. 4
- Marked "Lento con expressione" the composer's other notes as translated into English are less clear: "Let the free style of the chorale melody be
noted from the coloring" and "It is to be pointed out that a dynamic or exaggerated accent is not to be desired." Even so, a [reduction] for the
repeat of the chorale seemed appropriate. Registration: HW Gedact 8' + [Viola di Gamba 8' + Rohrflöte 4'] + Manual Koppel; Hinterwerk Flauto
amabile 4'; Pedal Subbass 16' + [Gedactbass 8'] + Violon 8'.
[1:13]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Freu dich sehr, O meine Seele, Op. 65, No. 5
- The tempo indicated is Alla Sarabanda, a gentle 3/4 meter, Homophonic setting alternating between Hauptwerk (Gedact 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' +
Rohrflöte 4') and Hinterwerk (Geigenprincipal 8' + Flauto amabile 4') supported by Pedal (Subbass 16' + Violon 8'). The only explicit sounding of
the chorale is the last phrase at the end (Hauptwerk Bordun 16' + Gedact 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' + Principal 8').
[1:37]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Gelobet seist Du, Jesu Christ, Op. 65, No. 6
- The chorale is sounded in the Pedal, first against the Hinterwerk and later against the Hauptwerk. Lacking a Trompette in the Pedal, the following
registration was used: Hinterwerk Full; Chorale on empty Pedal coupled to Hauptwerk: Principal 8' + Rohrflöte 4' + Progressio Harmonica 2-3 fach;
when hands move to the Hauptwerk, Gedactbass 8' + Violon 8' are added to the Pedal.
[1:37]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Lobt Gott, ihr Christen alle gleich, Op. 65, No. 7
- Very flashy, festive setting of a Christmas Chorale that's hidden in there somewhere. Registration: Hauptwerk Gedact 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' +
Rohrflöte 4'; Hinterwerk Full; Pedal Subbass 16' + Pedal-Coppel. Only the Hinterwerk Geigenprincipal is used to simulate the 3rd manual. It
reverts to the original sound for the 2nd manual, and the ending replaces the original Hauptwerk registration with Bordun 16' + Gedact 8' + Progressio
Harmonica 2-3 fach. Any more stops with these full chords would have caused clipping.
[1:49]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Macht hoch die Tür, Op. 65, No. 8
- Tour de force marked "Allegro brioso e brillante." And that's just the tempo indication! Slowed down a bit and modified at beginning for shorter
pedalboard, it's still pretty exciting. Registration: HW Bordun 16' + Gedact 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' + Rohrflöte 4'; Hinterwerk Geigenprincipal 8'
as Man. III, Full as Man. II; Pedal throughout Subbass 16' + Violon 8' + Pedal-Coppel. For brighter sections HW Bordun 16' + Viola di Gamba 8' +
Rohrflöte 4' + Progressio Harmonica 2-3 fach
[2:23]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Mit Ernst, o Menschenkinder, Op. 65, No. 9
- The tempo indicated is Largo mysterioso, and the explicit chorale soloed out on the Hauptwerk Gedact 8' against Hinterwerk Flauto amabile 8' and
Pedal Subbass 16' + Violon 8' is always preceded by a homophonic version on Hinterwerk Geigenprinzipal 8' + Flauto amabile 4'.
[3:1]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Vom Himmel Hoch, Op. 65, No. 10
- This setting, marked "Andante amoroso," starts with sweet flutes and ends with nearly full organ.
[2:5]
HW1
- Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Meinem Jesum lass ich nicht, Op. 65, No. 49
- In this Fughetta, the Chorale is twice emphasized with marcato, first in the Pedal and at the end in the Soprano.
