Kaul Orgelbau GmbH, St. Johannes / Weinsberg, Germany (1990) - Samples by Gernot Wurst
Grigny, Nicolas De: Fugue à 5 (Quoniam tu solus sanctus)Download
Double duet between Swell Cornet and Hauptwerk Dulzian (filling in for the Positiv Cromorne that was called for) with Pedal 8' Flute providing the fifth voice. Notes inégales are used from time to time, and impulse reverberation has been added, which mitigates the unusual sudden halts. [2:34] HW1
Reger, Max: Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott, Op. 67, No. 6Download View Lyrics
The famous chorale is prominent in eighth notes in three manual parts, then later appearing in quarter notes in the soprano, doubled for the last phrase as is this composer's wont. Impulse reverberation added. [1:59] HW1
    Froberger, J. J.: Capriccio IIDownload
Jolly little caprice realized on one manual with occasional pedal ad lib. This is a free sampled organ - a larger version will be available later. There are 6 main sections, each with its own registration: (1) Rohrflöte 8´ + Koppelflöte 4´ + Nasat 2 2/3' + Flötlein 2' with PD Subbaß 16´ + Gedecktbaß 8´; (2) Rohrflöte 8´ + Koppelflöte 4´; same PD; (3)  Rohrflöte 8´ + Flötlein 2' with PD Subbaß 16´; (4)  Rohrflöte 8´ + Koppelflöte 4´ + Flötnasat 2 2/3' + Octave 2' + Octave 1' with PD Subbaß 16´ + Gedecktbaß 8´ and HW/PD coupler; (5) Rohrflöte 8´ + Koppelflöte 4´ + Octave 1' with PD Subbaß 16´ + Gedecktbaß 8´; (6) Full HW except Terz 1 3/5'; PD Full with coupler. The reverberation of a large occupied hall has been added. [4:20] HW1
Schumann, Robert: Sketch 1, Op. 58Download
A rhythmic texture contrasts with a smooth romantic one, with dynamic variations along the way. Impulse reverberation added. [3:22] HW1
Walther, Johann Gottfried: Puer natus in BethlehemDownload View Lyrics
Canon between Pedal and top manual voice. Impulse reverberation added. Registration: HW Rohrflöte 8' + Koppelflöte 4' + Quint 2 2/3; BW Rankettino 8' coupled to Pedal Flotbaß 4'. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (9.5 MB). [1:35] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Em, Br II:31Download
Unusual shifting of keys, rhythmic variety, a rondo-like form, and a chance to enjoy the abundant intertwining of the three divisions. [5:35] HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Jesus Christus, Unser Heiland, BuxWV 198Download View Lyrics
The soprano part containing the Chorale is soloed out on the Pedal Gedacktbaß 4', the other parts are played on the Manual Rohrflöte 8'. No reverberation was added. [1:18] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Praeludium in C minor, Br II:02Download
A turn (G Ab G F G) in one voice, followed by three chords with all voices is the unifying feature of this sprightly prelude. Manual Rohrflöte + Flötnasat 2 2/3') + Octave 2'; Full Pedal. The reverberation of a large occupied hall has been added. [1:13] HW1
Grigny, Nicolas De: Duo (Glorificamus te)Download
Playful third movement of the Gloria. The Schola Cantorum score specifies Positiv Bourdon 8 + Doublette + Larigot (Hauptwerk Rohr flöte 8 + Flötelein 2' + Quinta 1 1/3) vs. Echo Chalumeau or Musette (Schwell Rankettino 8' was used with box partially closed). Impulse reverberation was added. [2:36] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Cm, Br II:24Download
Playful short trio utilizing syncopations and the typical marching bass. No additional reverberation added. The registration can be seen here. [2:5] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in Am, Br II:17Download
Marked "pro Organo Pleno" (for Full Organ"). While it is very recognizable from its first three repeated notes, the fugue subject seldom appears in this fugue. Registration: HW Rohrflöte 8' + Prästant 4' + Octava 2' + Quint 1 1/3 + Scharf 1'; PD Subbass 16' + Gedectbass 8' + Flötbass 4'. HW Prinzipal 8' and PD Kontrafagott 16' added at end. [4:0] HW1
Eberlin, Johann Ernst: Toccata Quinta et FugaDownload
The Toccata is marked Andante and contains lengthy sequences with repetitive short ornaments. There are two fugues in 4 voices. The subject of the first has a noticeable long trill that makes entrances easy to spot. The second fugue uses a different subject, but after 12 measures the (now) counter subject enters in the bass voice The pedal is saved until the end of each fugue. Impulse reverberation has been added to these dry samples. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (56.4 MB). [8:48] HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Wo Gott der Herr nicht bei uns hält, 1st SettingDownload View Lyrics
    A trio (RH HW Principal 8' + Praestant 4' + Oktave 2' + Quint 1 1/3'; LH BW Gedackt 8' + Flauta 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Prinzipal 2' + Terz 1 3/5') with Chorale sounded in the Pedal (Kontrafaggott 16' + Flötbaß 4'). Hands are reversed for repeat. Impulse reverberation added. [1:23] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Dm, Br II:25Download
Mostly based on arpeggios, this trio is well-suited to the sounds of this instrument. Impulse reverberation added. [2:39] (A=465) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Allein Gott in der Höh' sei Ehr', BWV 711Download View Lyrics
    Two voice setting with Quasi-Pedal Hauptwerk Rohrflöte 16' + Rohrflöte 8' + Præstant 4' throughout and varying reed/cornet stops for the Chorale: Brustwerk Flauta 8' + Flauta 4' + Principal 2' + Rankettino 8'. Repeats: Flauta 8' + Principal 2' + Quint 2 2/3' + Terz 1 3/5' + Septime 1 1/7' + None 8/9'; Ending: Gedackt 8' + Flauta 4' + Principal 2' + Quint 2 2/3' + Terz 1 3/5' + Septime 1 1/7' + Rankettino 8'. Impulse reverberation added. [2:43] HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fuga in B (über B-A-C-H), Br II:19Download
The famous 4-notes which spell Bach's surname in German notation (B is Bb, H is B natural) are surrounded with a lot of urgency by Bach's own use of it near the end of the Art of the Fugue, and by the dramatic 6 fugues by Robert Schumann, written for pedal piano or organ. Krebs deals with the inherent chromaticism in his own unusual fashion, with the subject appearing only once in the pedal. Impulse reverberation added. [5:5] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Symphonia to Cantata 35, BWV 035aDownload View Lyrics
Transcription of the 1st movement of the Cantata for the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity, this lively symphonia is reminiscent of the Brandenburg Concertos. Impulse reverberation added. [6:45] Midi file available. HW1
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Pavana HispanicaDownload
Eight colorful variations by the two composers. Variation 1 is by Sweelinck, Vars. 2-4 by Scheidt, Var. 5 by Sweelinck, Var. 6 by Scheidt, Vars. 7-8 by Sweelinck. Reverberation and MP3 conversion courtesy of Gernot Wurst. [4:59] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Ein feste Burg ist Unser Gott, BWV 720Download View Lyrics
Registration is prescribed by Bach at the beginning: Fagotto in the left hand, Sesquialtera in the right hand. Thereafter he merely specifies manuals (Oberwerk and Positiv). The chorale is used for the figuration, and is sounded at slower speed in various voices. The resulting effect is much lighter than the ponderous hymn tune it is based on. Impulse reverberation added. [3:31] HW1
