Kaul Orgelbau GmbH, St. Johannes / Weinsberg, Germany (1990) - Samples by Gernot Wurst
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in Am, Br II:18
- Marked "pro Organo Pleno" (for Full Organ") with chromatic subject in 3/4 time, the intensity builds to a surpringly sudden conclusion. Reverberation
added.
[3:39]
HW1
- Grigny, Nicolas De: Fugue
- Second movement of Verbum Supernum. A very short fugue subject, in five voices, two on the Brustwerk cornet, two on the Hauptwerk Dulzian 8' +
Rohrflöte 8', one on the Pedal Flutes 8' + 4'. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:41]
HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Von Gott will ich nicht lassen, BuxWV 220
- A canonic treatment of a chorale that has seen more sombre settings. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:34]
HW1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fugue on a Theme of Legrenzi, BWV 574
- A triple fugue based on a theme of Legrenzi. This relatively early piece consists of three parts: the first fugue subject is combined with the second
fugue subject in the third section. Reverberation added.
[6:12]
HW1
- Pachelbel, Johann: An Wasserflüssen Babylon, 1st Setting
- Imitative treatment of the Chorale in manuals with Chorale sounded slowly in Pedal. A few echo effects suggested themselves. In three sections:
1) HW Rohrflöte 8' + Praestant 4' + Flötlein2' + Quint 1 1/3' + Scharf 1'; PD Kontrafagott 16' + Fagott 8'; 2) Brustwerk
Gedackt 8' + Flauta 4' + Prinzipal 2' + Quint 1 1/3'; HW Rohrflöte + Praestant 4' + Flötquint 2 2/3' + Dulzian 8' coupled to PD;
3) Prinzipal 8' + Praestant 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Oktave 2' + Scharf 1' + Mixtur 3f; PD Prinzipalbass 16' + Kontrafagott 16' + Fagott 8'.
Reverberation added.
[3:55]
HW1
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Eb, Br II:29
- In unfailingly cheerful style, Krebs' first movement builds on parallel thirds and ornaments in the manuals, with the usual bouncing bass line in the
pedal. The second movement, Vivace, in 3/8 meter, flows out of the first and relies on a repeated note motive which sometimes appears in the pedal,
alternating with extensive sequences of arpeggiation on the two independent manuals supported by a pedal downbeat. Reverberation and MP3 conversion
courtesy of Gernot Wurst.
[3:38]
HW1
- Pachelbel, Johann: Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, 2nd Setting
- Florid 16th notes with interspersed 32nd notes provide a festive setting for the Chorale in the Pedal. Reverberation added.
[3:25]
HW1
- Pachelbel, Johann: Magnificat Quarti Toni
- Eight fugues not related to any particular Chorale tune. Manual I alternates with Manual II, except for the last Fugue, which utilizes a fuller organ
with pedal for a fulfilling conclusion to the set. No reverberation added.
[8:34]
HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Praeludium in G minor, BuxWV 150
- A virtuosic display of organ composition. Impulse reverberation added.
[6:33] (A=465)
HW1
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fuga in C minor, Br II:10
- Attractive and recognizable fugue subject divided into 4 perhaps arbitrary sections, depending on whether the pedal was at play or not, plus an extra
loud coda.
[5:42]
HW1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Herr Christ der ein'ge Gottes Sohn, BWV 698
- Although most of the piece is played on the manual (Rohrflöte 8' + Koppelflöte 4' + Flötnasat 2 2/3'), two phrases of the Chorale
in slower notes have been moved to the pedal (16' + 8' + 4' plus HW/PD coupler). No reverberation was added.
[1:5]
HW1
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Dm, Br II:26
- Swaggering theme based on the simplest of intervals. Syncopations, triplets, arpeggiation, sudden key changes and trills are amongst the devices used
to maintain spontaneity and interest. Impulse reverberation added.
[4:30]
HW1
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in Fm, Br II:14
- Marked "pro Organo Pleno" (for Full Organ"), the stately descending chromatic subject enters with a distinctive counter subject and only deviates
once, near the middle of the fugue, where the alto has an inverted and quickened form of the subject, but reverts to the original form through to the
end. Registration: HW: Rohrflöte 16' + Principal 8' + Prästant 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Oktave 2' + Mixtur 3f + Scharf 1' + Dulzian 8'; PD
Subbass 16' + Gedacktbass 8' + FlöteBass 4' + Kontrafaggott 16', with BW Rankettino 8' coupled. In the second half the Prinzipalbass 16' is added
to the PD. Extensive reverberation added.
[2:8]
HW1
- Brahms, Johannes: Fuge für die Orgel
- A 2-measure chromatic fugue subject with a recognizable 3-note component is presented both rectus (right-side-up) and inversus (up-side-down), some
softer interludes on the Hinterwerk over an organ point provide welcome relief from the sternness. The work was published in 1864, much earlier than
his other organ music. Possibly it is so dark because of the recent death of his friend Robert Schumann. Impulse reverberation added.
[5:2]
HW1
- Reger, Max: Benedictus, Op. 59, No. 9
- Written for 3 manuals, but easily rearranged for two. The introspective meditation on "Swell" and "Choir" is interrupted by a fugue on "Great," all
with appropriate Pedal. Impulse reverberation added.
[3:17]
HW1
- Walther, Johann Gottfried: Concerto del Signor Albinoni in Bb
- Three movements: Allegro (insistent) - HW Principal 8' + Præstant 4' + Octave 2' + Mixtur 3 F.; Adagio (tentative) - RH
Brustwerk Rankettino 8' + TREM, LH HW Dulzian 8' + TREM, PD Gedecktbaß 8'; Allegro (playful) - HW Rohrflöte 8' + Præstant 4'
+ Flötlein 2' + Scharf 1', Brustwerk Bordun 16' + Flauta 8' + Flauta 4' coupled to PD' - Repeats: HW Rohrflöte 8' + Koppelflöte
4' + Oktave 2' + Quint 1 1/3'; Brustwerk Flauta 4' coupled to PD Subbaß 16' + Flötbaß 4'. Impulse reverberation added.
