3-stop Harpsichord built by Martin Bezemer Eindhoven, 1981
    Samples by Hauptwerk.nl
Weckmann, Matthias: Toccata in A minorDownload
Unusually jazzy and improvisatory for the time. Rolling arpeggios, held chords, parallel and arbitrary contrary motion, dotted triplets and ornamentation decorate four major sections: Grave, Moderato, Grave and Allegro. +2dB output volume. [3:45] (A=465) HW2>3
Walther, Johann Gottfried: Toccata con Fuga C-DurDownload
Organ points in the Pedal (repeated as they die out) support the Prelude (8' Front) until the ending (8' Front + Back Lute), which contains an almost bizarre chromatic half measure. The Fugue is a very cheery affair (8' Back) whose only unusual feature seems to be some double pedal work in the middle (8' Front) and a particularly strong pedal entrance at the end (8' Front + 4' Back). -3dB, 100% speed, original tuning. [6:31] HW2>3
Purcell, Henry: Suite 8 for HarpsichordDownload
The Prelude [Front] is a series of short arpeggios and scale passages interrupted by a flurry of faster notes. The Almand [Back (Echo Lute)] consists of full Purcellian syncopations and quaint ornamentations. The Courante [Lute + Back (1st Echo Front. 2nd Echo Lute)], in 3/4 meter, makes use of a dotted rhythm and more trills. The Minuet [Lute + Back (Echo Front+Back 4')] is short and relatively sweet and simple. Output +2dB, no reverberation added. Brad Lehman Temperament. [5:42] HW2
Walther, Johann Gottfried: Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott (II)Download View Lyrics
A smaller reworking of the same materials used in the composer's version 1 without the pedal part. Temperament; Ordinaire, Output +2dB, no reverberation added. [1:50] HW2
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Prelude in F minor, Br II:03Download
Brief but rhythmically assertive statement, utilizes a virtual pulldown pedal. Just Intonation Pythagorean Temperament, +2dB. No reverberation added. The Front and Back 8' registers are played together. [1:12] HW2
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Prelude from English Suite No. 3, BWV 808aDownload
From the real harpsichord literature, simulated as best this virtual organist can. Brad Lehman Temperament, Output at +0dB. Impulse reverberation added. [3:45] HW2
    Nardini, Pietro: AllegrettoDownload
Marked "Leggiero e grazioso," this charmingly annoying piece fell off the harpsichord keyboard, so had to be modified in the middle. Termperament "Ordinaire," 1db Output Volume, Impulse reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (12.8 MB). [1:51] HW2
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Paduana LachrimaeDownload
Three variations on a secular dance tune. Temperament: Young. No reverberation added. [3:31] HW2
Pachelbel, Johann: Magnificat Quarti ToniDownload View Lyrics
Eight fugues not related to any particular Chorale tune. Various combinations of registers and dynamics are used instead of the usual manual changes. Organ-Silbermann Temperament. [7:44] HW2
    Turini, Ferdinando: PrestoDownload
Born 1749 in Salo (Brescia), died 1812 in Brescia, pupil of his uncle, Ferdinando Bertoni, who in turn was a pupil of Padre Martini. Basically a two voice texture, interrupted occasionally by thick chords, quite an energetic piece using a variety of techniques, in two halves that end in the lower register. Marked repeats were ignored. Termperament Valotti-Young, 0db Output Volume, Impulse reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (22.6 MB). [3:14] HW2
Kuhnau, Johann: Ach Herr, mich armen SünderDownload View Lyrics
A simple setting for one manual with the Chorale in the soprano. A dynamic arc was imposed on the Front 8' register, and the Kellner Temperament was used. [1:41] HW2
Pachelbel, Johann: Ach Herr, mich armen SünderDownload View Lyrics
Two settings treated as one, the first played on the Back 8', the second on the Front 8' with one brief repeat made softer with the Swell pedal. Unlike many treatments the famous "Passion Chorale" is always playing, in one key or another. MeanTone 6th Comma Temperament with Impulse reverberation, Output +2Db. [4:4] HW2
    Boehm, Georg: Capriccio in D-durDownload
Light hearted fughetta briefly interrupted by scalar passage, virtuosic transition to a 3/4 version of the same material, a short passage of sextuplet arpeggios in Common Time merging into a flowing 24/16 version with neighboring tones and octave leaps and ending with an organ point and cadence. Some lower bass notes added. -2dB output volume, WellTempered 7th Comma Temperament, Impulse Reverberation added. [4:55] HW2
Purcell, Henry: Suite 4 for HarpsichordDownload
This suite consists of a Prelude which is based on arpeggios; an Almand which uses both arpeggios and a sequence of descending parallel thirds with the upper interval offset by half a beat; a quirky and chromatic Courante; ending with a relativly restful Saraband that sports just a liittle oramentation and syncopation. All but the Prelude contain two repeated sections. +1dB output volume, Impulse reverberation added, Just intonation-Pythagorean Temperament. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (32.7 MB). [4:41] HW2
Weckmann, Matthias: Toccata in C MajorDownload
Only one section, with a demonstration of the swell pedal that is provided with this sampleset. Original temperament [3:28] HW2>3
