Johann Adam Ehrlich organ at Evangelische Stadtkirche / Bad Wimpfen, Germany (1748)
    Samples by Gernot Wurst
Eberlin, Johann Ernst: Toccata Secunda et FugaDownload
Toccata begins and ends with held pedal notes (Subbass 16' + Octavbass 8'), but is basically for the Hauptwerk principal chorus (Principal 8' + Octav 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Superoctav 2' + Mixtur 5 Fach, which adds an illusory 16' pitch). The fugue has two parts, the first played on the Positiv (Weit Principal 8' (*) + Salicet 4' (*) + Floete gedeckt 4' + Octav 2' + Quint 1 1/3'), the second on the Hauptwerk with Positiv coupled (Hauptwerk minus the 2 2/3'). When the pedal enters at the end, the Principalbass 16' and Gross Quinte 10 2/3' (*) are added, for an illusory 32'. (*) Additions from the extended set. [6:3] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Magnificat noni toni, BuxWV 205Download View Lyrics
Three variations, the first in 4 voices for Hauptwerk and Pedal; the second places the Choral in the Pedal at a slow tempo (16' reed); the third uses the Hauptwerk with Pedal at the end. [4:10] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Vierne, Louis: Epitaphe, Op. 31, No. 4Download
This introspective portrait of grief draws from very deep wells. Registration: Hauptwerk Viola di Gamba 8' coupled to Positiv Weitprincipal 8' + Grossgedeckt 8'; Pedal Sunbbass 16' + Principalbass 8', with the Salicet 4' added to the Positiv in the middle. Extreme reverberation added. [5:52] (a=468 Hz) Midi file available. HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: O Lamm Gottes, BWV 656Download
The innocent sounding beginning leads to a rhythmically powerful third verse and culminates in a glorious chromatic ending. The words of this chorale are based on the Agnus Dei. Impulse Reverberation has been added. [8:26] (a=468 Hz) HW1
    Froberger, J. J.: Canzona IIIDownload
The main sections are 1) in common time - Registration: Positiv Grossgedeckt 8' + Principal 4' + Quint 1 1/3; 2) 9/8 with a theme related to the first one - Registration: Hauptwerk Grossgedeckt 8' + Kleinhedeckt 4' + Superoctav 2'; and 3) in common time to end with flourishes on either side and yet another rhythmic variation on the first theme (here the Positiv/Hauptwerk coupler is added, the Viola da Gamba 8' is added to the Hauptwerk and Octav 2' is withdrawn from Positiv). [3:7] (a=468 Hz) Midi file available. HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Toccata in G minor (I)Download
One of four such pieces in this key, the utmost in simplicity: two organ points in the Pedal; parallel 6ths, 10ths and 3rds in two voices on the manual, followed by four-note descending arpeggios. No reverberation added, extra close miking. [1:34] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Trio Sonata No. 5, BWV 529Download
    Three movements: Allegro in C Major RH on Hauptwerk: Großgedeckt 8' + Kleingedeckt 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Superoctav 2'; LH on Positiv Weitprincipal 8' + Principal 4' + Quint 1 1/3'; Pedal Subbaß 16' + Octavbaß 8' + Pordonfleute 4'. Largo in A minor RH HW Großgedeckt 8' + Viola di Gamba 8' + Kleingedeckt 4'; LH Pos Weitprincipal 8' + Spitzfloete 4'; PD Subbaß 16' + Octavbaß. Allegro in C Major RH HW Principal 8' + Octav 4' + Cornet 3 Fach; LH Pos Weitprincipal 8' + Principal 4' + Octav 2' + Quint 1 1/3' + Mixtur 3 Fach; Pedal Subbaß 16' + Octavbaß 8' + Octav 4' + Pordonfleute 4'. Several high "D" pedal notes were transposed down and Impulse Reverberation was added. [13:40] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Dies sind die heil'gen zehn Gebot'Download View Lyrics
Short setting for one manual (Hauptwerk Principal 8' + Octav 4' + Quint 2 2/3' + Superoctav 2' + Mixtur 5 Fach, which due to its composition adds the illusion of a 16' voice). Impulse reverberation added. [1:38] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Vom Himmel Hoch, BWV 738Download View Lyrics
The last in the series of Chorale Harmonizations, this bell-like, almost jazzy little setting of the German Christmas hymn uses compound 12/8-4/4 rhythms, packing a lot of variety into 15 measures. [1:26] (a=468 Hz) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Christus, der ist mein Leben, BWV 1112Download View Lyrics
The Chorale in the soprano voice (Positiv: Großgedeckt 8' + Floete gedeckt 4') has been bolstered with the HW Superoctav 2' coupled to the Pedal, with thrilling effect. [1:23] HW1
    Muffat, Georg: PassacagliaDownload
From "Apparatus - Musico - Organisticus." The opening 8 measure phrase appears a total of five times, making it sort of a ritornello. Other than this, unlike other Passacaglias of the period, the Pedal is quite free to join, or not, in the general festivities. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (46.2 MB). [7:42] (a=468 Hz) HW1
