Virtual organ set from 1766 Schmidt organ in Peruc, Czech Republic -
    Samples by Jiri Zurek
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Prelude and Fugue in A minor, BWV 543Download
One of the mature masterworks. The Prelude starts with arpeggios on the manuals, to which is added a pedal point, proceeding to manual flourishes, a pedal solo based on the opening motive, and proceeding to a strong dialogue between manual and pedals. The Fugue has an infectious momentum and ends with one of the strangest cadenzas in all of Bach. The Peruc acoustical environment causes the (perhaps intended) effect of the ringing of bells. [9:50] HW1
    Froberger, J. J.: Canzona IIIDownload
The main sections are 1) in common time - Registration: Man. 2: Copula Major 8' + Copula minor 4' + Mixtura; 2) 9/8 with a theme related to the first one - Registration: Man. 1: Kryt 8' + Fletna 4' + Oktava 2' + 1 1/3'; and 3) in common time to end with flourishes on either side and yet another rhythmic variation on the first theme (here the II/I coupler is added). [3:27] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Gott der Vater wohn' uns bei, BWV 748Download View Lyrics
The chorale melody is sounded at different times on Manual 1 and Pedal, and in addition, motives from the Chorale are used in the accompaniment on Manual 2. The repeat uses a lighter Cornet with even more missing ranks. [3:48] HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Ricercare in F# minorDownload
The "subject is used both in "recto" and "inversus" form (right side up and upside down. It explores a very unusual key for instruments of the period. [3:16] Midi file available. HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fugue in B minor on a Theme of Corelli, BWV 579Download
An early fugue based on a theme by Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713). Suited to a small 2-manual organ, this was a favorite to practice on my residence organ. [5:4] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Trio Sonata No. 6, BWV 530Download
The last of the 6 trio sonatas has three movements: Vivace (G Major) - Lento (E minor) - Allegro (G Major). [13:30] HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Herr Gott, dich loben alle wirDownload View Lyrics
Simple setting for Man. 2 Flutes (8'+4'), with the Pedal coupled to the Man. 1 Principal sounding the chorale now associated with the Doxology, followed by a special Phantom-ornamented improvisation for full Great and Pedal organ. [3:57] HW1
Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Variations on Balleto del granducaDownload
Five variations on a secular dance tune. [5:3] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fugue in C Major, BWV 946Download
Originally for harpsichord, based on a theme from Albinoni's Sonate, Op 1, Nos. 12, 3 and 8 (1710). Pedal part added at the end. [2:49] Midi file available. HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Partita on Christ, der du bist der helle Tag, BWV 766Download View Lyrics
The first of four partitas (variations on a chorale), this one contains the fully harmonized chorale and six variations, but each movement is inspired by a verse of the text. You may enjoy scrolling down to the lyrics and follow along in German or English. [9:1] HW1
