Marcussen & Son Organ / St. Stefanuschurch / Moerdijk (Noord-Brabant, The Netherlands) (1965) - Samples by Ariaan Hoogendijk
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in Eb, Br II:12Download
A cheerful little fugue subject with occasional syncopations. There are three playful false entrances in the tenor voice about halfway through, each followed with a correct entrance in the bass (pedal). It ends with a pedal point and final statements of the fugue subject in alto and soprano voices. [1:59] Midi file available. HW1
Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Nun Danket, Op. 65, No. 59Download View Lyrics
A festival prelude where the chorale is the basis for the composition, but it is almost hidden. Beware of extreme dynamic contrasts. The melody doubled on the Solo at the very end would require two regular organists instead of the peculiarly flexible Phantom Organist. You may view the latest 4 manual instrument here and if you wish to hear what the organ might sound like in a more reverberant setting click here. [3:51] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fugue in C Major, BWV 946Download
Originally for harpsichord, based on a theme from Albinoni's Sonate, Op 1, Nos. 12, 3 and 8 (1710). Pedal part added at the end. [2:36] Midi file available. HW1
Handel, George Frederick: Aria in F MajorDownload
Transcribed by Alexandre Guilmant from the Twelfth Concerto Grosso, this tranquil piece is often played during wedding preludes. Uses the Solo flute on the 4 manual virtual organ viewable here. [2:12] HW1
    Clarke, Jeremiah: Trumpet VoluntaryDownload
First it was by Purcell, then scholars considered it to be by Jeremiah Clarke, now, who knows? For many years it has been a favorite of brides and grooms with a sense of grandeur, if not of self-preoccupation. The Phantom Organist took a few liberties based on the many times he had to vamp until he saw the bride out of the corner of his eye in the rear view mirror. Experimental 4-manual virtual organ (design work still in progress). [3:28] HW1
Mendelssohn, Felix: Sonata V, Andante con motoDownload
Restful Siciliano with staccato pedal. [2:54] HW1
Franck, César: Adagio from Chorale 3Download
From the last of the three Chorales, written near the end of Franck's life, this elegant romantic elegy stands as a monument to the human spirit in all of its fullness. This imperfect but well-intentioned interpretation is dedicated to the memory of my teacher, Owen Brady. [2:23] HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder, BuxWV 178Download View Lyrics
A serene setting of the Passion Chorale which alternates between straightforward melody and ornamental flourishes. Registration: Huvudvaerk Rohrflojte 8'; Brustvaerk trae-Gedakt 8'; Rygpostiv Sesquialtera coupled to Brustvaerk. [2:11] Midi file available. HW1
    Mendelssohn, Felix: Sonata VI, FugaDownload
Fugue is based on the first phrase of German Chorale for Lord's Prayer, with the meter changed to 3/4. [2:36] HW1
    Leclair, Jean-Marie: SarabandeDownload
From the French Baroque, this is a sweet but plaintive air. Experimental 4-manual virtual organ (design work still in progress). [3:4] HW1
    Dandrieu, Jean-François: RondeauDownload
A light, cheerful and uncomplicated example of the rondo form from the French Baroque. Experimental 4-manual virtual organ (design work still in progress). [1:25] HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Fantasia in D minorDownload
Charming little diversion for two manuals. [1:49] Midi file available. HW1
    Rheinberger, Josef: CantilenaDownload
From Sonata in D minor, Op. 148, No. 11. Beautiful German romantic melody, accompanied by ascending and descending octaves in the pedal, using experimental 4-manual virtual organ (design work still in progress). [4:24] HW1
Buxtehude, Dietrich: Vater unser im Himmelreich, BuxWV 219Download View Lyrics
A beautifully decorated Chorale presentation with portions of the melody used in the simple two-voice plus pedal accompaniment. [2:2] HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Partita on Allein Gott in der Höh, BWV 771Download View Lyrics
Most probably by Andreas Nicolaus Vetter, these 17 variations are presented with all repeats intact, this flawed showpiece demonstrates many aspects of the reeds in particular, with artificial pedal cornet in the last variation. [17:16] HW1
