Three Manual Organ based on Schantz Organ at First Baptist Church of Riverside, California (1966) -
    Samples by Jonathan Orwig
    Franck, César: Chorale IIIDownload
Dedicated to "mon élève Augusta Holmes," this is the third of the monumental Trois Chorals written near the end of Franck's life. It includes the sumptuously beautiful Adagio in A Major, which is often played by itself. Impulse reverberation added. [10:55] (3 manual version) HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in Am, Br II:17Download
While it is very recognizable from its first three repeated notes, the fugue subject seldom appears in this fugue. Registration: GT Flute Harmonique 8' + Gedackt 8' + Octave 4' + Waldflute 2' + Larigot 1 1/3' + SW-GT 8'; SW Mixture IV; PD Bourdon 16' + Octave 8' + Choral Bass 4' + Mixture III; GT Principal 8' + Mixture IV added at end. [3:58] (3 manual version) HW1
    Stanley, John: Trumpet VoluntaryDownload
Second movement of Voluntary V from his Opus 6. Though there have been many elaborate arrangements, these are Stanley's notes with a fair approximation of his ornaments. In this version the left hand is transferred to the pedal and the resources of a three-manual organ are applied to everything else, with Impulse reverberation added. Thanks to Tom O'Driscoll for the score. [2:24] (3 manual version) HW1
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Valet will ich dir geben, BWV 735Download View Lyrics
Fantasia on the German funeral tune which is often used in American churches with the words "All Glory, Laud and Honor" for Palm Sunday processions, for full organ and pedal. Output volume -6dB, Young Temperament, Impulse reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (20.3 MB). [3:11] (3 manual version) HW2
Gigout, Eugène: En forme de LégendeDownload
In three sections: Andante, Quasi Allegretto and Tempo Primo, with a grand climax near the end that gradually recedes to the quiet way it began. [4:56] (3 manual version) HW1
    Stanford, C. V.: St. Patrick's Breastplate, Op. 153 No. 3Download
From Sonata 4, "Celtica," this is a fantasy on the hymn, its bold 6/4 rhythm and staticly repositioned chords interspersed with episodes in common meter and punctuated with fancy finger- and footwork. There is even a passage reminiscent of César Franck's Second Chorale. Impulse reverberation added. Thanks to Tom O'Driscoll for the score. [7:4] (3 manual version) HW1
Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott, Op. 65, No. 39Download View Lyrics
Pretty much a neobaroque treatment with the Chorale in the Soprano throughout, but with a surprise romantic ending. Impulse reverberation added. [2:9] (3 manual version) HW1
Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Valet will Ich dir gegeben, Op. 65, No. 11Download View Lyrics
The Chorale appears from time to time in the Pedal, where it is given more sonic prominence according to the composer's instructions. Registration: SW Rohrflute 8' + Octave 4'; CH Erzahler 8' + Unda Maris 8' + CH-CH 4' coupler (with and without the SW Voix Celeste 8'); GT Harmonic Flute uncoupled; PD Lieblich Gedackt 16' + Nachthorn (or Octave 8' to highlight the Chorale). [2:3] (3 manual version) HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fugue in F, Br II:13Download
The subject of the fugue is inverted about halfway through, but comes in right side up at the end in the pedal. [2:34] (3 manual version) HW1
Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Trio in Cm, Br II:23Download
Marked "Andante," this elegaic trio draws from a large palette of note values - from whole notes to 64th notes, which enhances the aura of spontaneity. [4:10] (3 manual version) HW1
Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Macht hoch die Tür, Op. 65, No. 8Download View Lyrics
Tour de force marked "Allegro brioso e brillante." And that's just the tempo indication! [2:5] (3 manual version) HW1
Grigny, Nicolas De: Récit de CromorneDownload
In this version the fourth movement of the Veni Creator, the Choir Clarinet stop with added 2 2/3' fills in for the Cromorne, against Swell Rohrflute 8' coupled to Great Flute 4'. Recorded at maximum output volume. [2:24] (3 manual version) HW1
Pachelbel, Johann: Ein feste Burg ist Unser GottDownload View Lyrics
Fughetta on the Chorale followed by 16th note figurations in 2 manual voices with slow version of the Chorale in the Pedal. [4:30] (3 manual version) HW1
Karg-Elert, Sigfrid: Nun lasst uns Gott dem Herren, Op. 65, No. 31Download View Lyrics
Subtitled "Allemande" but with unusual bravura, even for this composer. Impulse reverberation added. [2:12] (3 manual version) HW1
    Vierne, Louis: Carillon de WestminsterDownload
A virtuosic perpetual motion piece punctuated by the peals of the Westminster Chimes. Very adventurous harmonies put one in mind of modern composers Steve Reich, John Adams or Arvo Pärt. Impulse reverberation added. Thanks to Jon Brannon for the score. [6:30] (3 manual version) HW1
