HW2 version of Three Manual Organ based on Schantz Organ at First Baptist Church of Riverside, California (1966) - Samples by Jonathan Orwig
- Pachelbel, Johann: Herr Christ der ein'ge Gottes Sohn
- Four part fughetta on Chorale phrases (played on Great) followed by a slower sounding of the complete Chorale in the Pedal; for the repeated portion
on Swell alone, the Pedal is reduced appropriately, reverting to beginning registration after the repeat with a 32' added to the Pedal at the end.
WellTemperament-Kellner, -4dB output volume, Impulse reverberation added.
[3:12]
HW2
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder, Br III:02
- Each phrase of the Chorale is preceded by a statement in the pedal, but some beautiful interplay occurs with the Great flute(s) several measures
before ithe actual statement on the Choir reed (with tremulant). The temperament is Mean Tone Quarter Comma Pietro Aaron. Impulse reverberation added.
[3:13]
HW2
- Kellner, Johann Peter: Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan
- Unmitigatingly cheerful chorale setting. The Temperament is named for the composer. 0dB output volume. Impulse reverberation added.
[3:42]
HW2
- Zachau, Friedrich Wilhelm: Vom Himmel Hoch
- Simple choral prelude arranged as a trio. Impulse reverberation added. Bradley Lehman temperament. (Output +3dB) Original score courtesy Jonathan
Orwig. Rearranged score available here. Registration: SW LH Rohr Gedackt 16' +
Viole 8' + Rohr Flute 8' + Principal 4'; GT RH Gedackt 8' + Flute 4' + Waldfloete 2' + Larigot 1 1/3; PD Clairon 4'.
[1:0]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Nun freut euch, lieben Christen gmein, BWV 734
- Yet another delightful trio from the Master, with a quasi-bass part in the left hand on the Swell, a playful right hand on the Great, and all
available 4' stops for the Chorale in the Pedal (relieved by Choir Clarinet coupled at 4' + Pd Nachthorn 4' at the repeat). The alternate text for
this tune is "Es ist gewisslich an der Zeit." -1dB output volume, Impulse reverberation added, Brad Lehman temperament.
[2:37]
HW2
- Banchieri, Adriano: Suonata Prima, Fuga Plagale
- First sonata from Primo Registro of the Organo Suonarino. The bass part was moved to the Pedal division, which shows off the counterpoint in a grand
manner. Output at -4dB using Brad Lehman Temperament. Impulse reverberation added. Mutopia Project score is available here.
[1:10]
HW2
- Armsdorf, Andreas: Herr Jesu Christ, dich zu uns wend'
- Bare bones trio with the exception of two notes in the left hand and a triad in the right at the end. -2dB Output Volume, Welltempered 5th Comma
Temperament, Impulse reverberation added. Score showing some of my tempo manipulation available here.
[0:55]
HW2
- Kellner, Johann Peter: Herzlich tut mich verlangen
- Ornamented Chorale on Swell Cornet with two voices on the Great and a fourth on the Pedal. Slight variations for the repeat. The Temperament is named
for the composer. 0dB output volume. Impulse reverberation added.
[3:26]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Fugue on the Magnificat, BWV 733
- For a modest plenum (gently expressive Swell coupled to Great) with Chorale in the pedal, which takes a long time to come in, but is worth the wait.
1/10 Comma Temperament, -2dB output volume, Impulse Reverberation added.
[4:13]
HW2
- Walther, Johann Gottfried: Preludio con Fuga A-Dur
- The Prelude begins with a Pedal cadenza, continues with manual arpeggios, and pits a strongly ornamented soprano line against emphatic chords, with an
almost seamless segue to the Fugue, whose subject incorporates the first 5 notes of the familiar "St. Anne" hymn tune, though its first entrance is
disguised with ornamentation. Subsequent entrances are more straightforward, especially in the Pedal. Output volume -6dB. Temperament: Werckmeister 3.
Impulse reverberation added.
[5:1]
HW2
- Doles, Johann Friedrich: Sollt' ich meinem Gott nicht singen?
- Effusive glorified trio on Great, Choir and Swell, with fairly straightforward Chorale statements. Output volume 0dB, Kirnberger 3 Temperament,
Impulse reverberation added.
[2:29]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Trio in G Major for 2 Flutes [and Continuo], BWV 1039
- Four movements: Adagio - Allegro ma non presto - Adagio e piano - Presto. Not really a transcription in the usual sense, since it was created directly
from a printout of The Digital Bach CD. The cembalo's realization of the figured bass was omitted, leaving a lively pedal part which lies pretty well
within the compass of a 32-note pedalboard. Temperament: Well-Tempered Kellner. Output volume +1dB, no reverberation added.
[11:13]
HW2
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Magnificat noni toni, BuxWV 205
- Three variations, the first in 4 voices for Great and Pedal; the second uses a reduced Great against the Swell Trompette 8' with tremolo (quite lovely
in Hauptwerk 2) coupled to the Pedal; the third is for much fuller Great with Pedal at the end. -4dB output volume, Temperament: Ordinaire, no
reverberation added.
[4:10]
HW2
- Doles, Johann Friedrich: Auf meinen lieben Gott
- Doles was a pupil of Bach and the second to succeed him as cantor of St. Thomas of Leipzig. The cheerful accompaniment surrounds rather prosaic
statements of the Chorale, first on the Swell Trompette, then on a Cornet combination with Hautbois added. Vallotti-Young Temperament, -2dB Output
Volume, Impulse reverberation added.
[2:32]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Concerto [Trio] in Eb, BWV 597
- An arrangement of a work by an unknown composer, but it has the infectious bubbly joy of J. L. Krebs. There are two movements: [Allegro] (RH on
GT; LH on SW pictured here ) and Gigue (RH on GT; LH on SW pictured here ) ; Repeats:(RH on GT; LH on SW pictured here ) . Kirnberger
3 Temperament. Impulse reverberation added. Thanks to Markus Hoffmann for the score.
[6:11]
HW2
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Heut' Triumphiret Gottes Sohn, BWV 630
- The last of 6 Easter chorales from Bach's Liturgical Year. The bell-like motive in the Pedal imparts a triumphant exuberance. Impulse reverberation
added. WellTemperament-Gabler.
[2:17]
HW2>3
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Du Friedefürst, Herr Jesu Christ, BWV 1102
- The bass line is sort of a repeating ground bass, the melody is heavily ornamented, and the 'Allegro'
marking in the middle stimulates a riotous ending. Temperament: Mean Tone-Modified 6th. Impulse reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR
format: here (12.3 MB).
[2:8]
HW2
- Walther, Johann Gottfried: Variations on "Liebster Jesu"
- Chorale and four attractive baroque variations, with terrace style repeats and pedal at the beginning and end. Meantone Fifth Comma temperament,
Impulse reverberation added.
