Mühleisen Orgelbau, St. Cornelius and Cyprian (1997) - Samples by Gernot Wurst
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Air from Suite No. 3 in D
- This is a direct transcription from the orchestral score, but tries to simulate the version I've played at countless weddings. One of Bach's most
romantic melodies. Registration: Melody on HW (Principal 8' + Rohrflöte 8' + Rohrflöte Celeste 8' + Holztraverse 4'). Accompaniment on SW
(Gamba 8 + Gamba Celeste 8' + Bourdon 8' + Rohrflöte Celeste 8') and PD (Subbaß 16' + SW/PD coupler). Special ODF with GT and PD separately
enclosed from SW. Close miking and reverberation of large occupied hall.
[4:34]
HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Komm, heiliger Geist, BuxWV 199
- Florid presentation of the chorale on full cornet (Positiv Bourdon 8' + Holztraverse 4' + Nazard 2 2/3' + Doublette 2' + Terz 1 3/5) with
tremulant, with gently repetitive ending. Accompaniment: HW Rohrflöte 8' + Octave 4'; PD Subbaß 16' + Octave 8'. Extra close miking,
reverberation of large occupied hall.
[3:32]
HW1
- Vaòhal, Jan: Fugue No. 5
- A fairly grand subject with some fairly evocative development. Registration: HW Principal Chorus + Trompette 8'; PD Subbaß 16' + HW/PD coupler.
Reverberation of large occupied hall.
[2:50]
HW1
- Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Echo Fantasia 6 (Ionian) [attributed]
- Showcases the Great Trompette 8' against bright flues on the Positiv: Bourdon 8' + Holztraverse 4' + Doublette 2' + Sifflöte 1 1/3. No
reverberation added.

HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Komm, heiliger Geist, BuxWV 200
- Another florid presentation of the chorale on partial cornet (Positiv Bourdon 8' + Nazard 2 2/3' + Doublette 2' + Terz 1 3/5) with surprise
ending. Accompaniment: HW Rohrflöte 8' + Holztraverse 4'; PD Subbaß 16' + HW/PD coupler. Extra close miking, reverberation of large occupied
hall.
[3:17]
HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Ich ruf zu dir, BuxWV 196
- Somewhat atypical setting for two more or less equal voices and non-cantus pedal with subtly varying meter and texture changes. Registration: HW
Rohrflöte 8' + Holztraverse 4'; Positiv Bourdon 8' + Doublette 2'; PD Subbaß 16' + Positiv/Pedal coupler. Extra close miking, reverberation of large
occupied hall.

HW1
- Bruhns, Nicholas: Prelude in G minor
- Nicholas Bruhns (1665-1697) was one of the greatest organists and composers of his time, learned music from his father Paul Bruhns (1640-89?) who was
the organist at Schwabstedt, and later studied composition and organ with Dietrich Buxtehude, whose influence is evident from this composition.
Registration: Hauptwerk Principal 8' + Octave 4' + Superoctave 2' + Mixtur 1/3 + Positiv/Hauptwerk coupler; Pedal Subbas 16' + Octave 8' +
Octave 4 + Posaune 16' + Positiv/Pedal coupler; Positiv: Gamba 8' + Holztraverz 4' + Nasat 2 2/3. + Sifflet 1 1/3'.

HW1
- Froberger, J. J.: Capriccio III
- Though probably written for harpsichord, with appropriate registration, and a little added pedal, one can almost hear Buxtehude.
[3:58]
HW1
- Pachelbel, Johann: Prelude & Fugue in E minor
- Ornamental prelude (HW Principal 8' + Gamba 8' + Holztraverse 4'; PD Subbas 16' + Octave 8'), followed by straightforward fugue (SW Doublette 2' added
to HW) using extended sample set, close miking and the reverberation of a large occupied hall.
[1:51]
HW1
- Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Echo Fantasia 2 (Ionian)
- A rather forthright fugue-like exposition to begin with, regressing to the softer manual for the echo section, back to the louder sound for some
quasi-echo passages a charming hemiola section and then scalar passages in eighth notes and later sixteenth notes, which alternate between right and
left hands, with the opposite hand holding long chords. Echo on SW (Bourdon 8' + Holztraverse 4') Louder on GT (Principal 8' + Octave 4')

- Brahms, Johannes: Herzlich tut mich verlangen (I)
- In this first setting of the Passion chorale, Brahms places the melody in the soprano voice, decorated with passing tones, The interval of a rising
second and a rhythm that emphasizes the 2nd and 4th (weaker) beats play a major part in the pedal part. Opens on HW (Principal 8' + Rohrflöte 8'
+ Rohrflöte Celeste 8'+ Gamba 8' + Gamba Celeste 8' + Holztraverse 4') with PD Subbas 16' + Octave 8'. Retires to Positiv (Bourdon 8' +
Rohrflöte Celeste 8' + Holztraverse 4' - PD Gedact 8' replaces Principal and Positiv/PD coupler is added). Later the Holztraverse 4' is retired
from the Positiv for a truly restful contrast, and then the entire chorale resumes on HW with added Octave 4' and Octave added to PD. No reverberation
was useed, but both divisions have enclosures in this version of the extended set.

HW1
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Fuga in G Major, BuxWV 175
- Fugue in 3 voices and 3 sections. The first uses a carefree subject with 8 entrances, some with modified rhythm on the first note (Positiv Bourdon 8'
+ Holztraverse 4' + Nazard 2&2/3' + Octävlein 1'); the second (Hauptwerk Rohrflöte 8' + Gambe 8' + Octave 4' + Mixture 1 1/3) inverts
the subject and also has 8 entrances; the third mixes both forms of the subject (and also couples the two manuals), with 7 entrances of each,
sometimes in a quasi-stretto. No reverberation was added.
[3:9]
HW1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Trio Sonata No. 4, BWV 528
- The invocatory Adagio (R.H. HW Rohrflöte 8' + Gamba 8' + Gamba Celeste 8'; L.H. Positiv Bourdon 8' + Rohrflöte Celeste +
Holztraverse 4' + Nazard 2 2/3; PD Subbas 16' + Gedactbas 8') is unique among the 6 Trio Sonatas, making the movements 4 in number. It
quickly gives way to a bright Vivace, (R.H. HW Principal 8' + Octave 4' + Superoctave 2'; L.H. Positiv Bourdon 8' + Holztraverse 4' +Octave
2' + Sifflöte 1 1/3; PD Subbas 16' + Octave 8' + Gedactbas 8') with two main themes. The first theme of the Andante (R.H. HW
Principal 8' + Rohrflöte 8' ; L.H. Positiv Bourdon 8' + Gambe 8' + Holztraverse 4' ; PD Subbas 16' + Gedactbas 8') is based on melodic
intervals of a fourth; the second theme includes progressive intervals of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and sometimes 6th; the two themes are combined at the end
of this movement. The sassy theme of Un poco Allegro (R.H. HW Principal 8' + Octave 4' + Superoctave 2' + Mixture 1 1/3'; L.H. Positiv
Bourdon 8' + Gambe 8' Holztraverse 4' + Nazard 2 2/3' + Octave 2' + Sifflöte 1 1/3 + Octava 1'; PD Subbas 16' + Octave 8' + Gedactbas
8' + Octave 4') also begins with a fourth. No reverberation has been added to this virtual performance and the organ is "unenclosed" throughout.
