The Casavant Frères organ (opus 2871) at St. George's Memorial Anglican Church Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (1966) Samples by Ken Bales
- Vierne, Louis: Choral, Op. 31, No. 16
- A powerful motive alternating open fifths and thirds is sounded in
increasingly lower regions of the manual reeds. This alternates with
a sweeter, lilting section, and the expression pedal is utilized with
great effect.
[4:30]
Midi file available.
MO
- Schumann, Robert: Canon 5, Op. 56
- This is the most pianistic of the Canons, and resembles a Scherzo. The original organ could never be made to sound this way, since the combinations
were used rapidly to achieve the Sforzando effects asked for by the composer.

MO
- Boehm, Georg: Herr, wie du willst, so schick's mit mir
- Two verse setting, the first stately, the second almost frenetic in its jollity.

MO
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Prelude and Fugue (Wedge) in E, BWV 548
- Heroic chord-punctuated recitative passages alternating with exhilarating episodes. The fugue is known as the "Wedge" because of the increasing
intervals in the fugue subject, which look like a wedge on the manuscript paper. Its forward momentum, chromatic interludes and powerful counterpoint
are thrilling. Together they constitute one of the most mature masterworks of J.S. Bach which add great stature to the organ repertoire.

MO
- Walther, Johann Gottfried: Aus meines Herzens Grunde
- Brisk ornamentation on manuals, sturdy Chorale in the Pedal.
[1:46]
MO
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Concerto [Trio] in Eb, BWV 597
- An arrangement of a work by an unknown composer, but it has the infectious bubbly joy of J. L. Krebs. There are two movements: Allegro and Gigue.
Thanks to Markus Hoffmann for the score.
[6:10]
MO
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Nun freut euch, lieben Christen gmein, Br III:20
- Short festive setting of the Thanksgiving hymn.
[0:59]
MO
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Ciacona in C minor, BuxWV 159
- Unlike Buxtehude's more famous Passacaglio in D minor, the pedal theme does not repeat throughout the entire piece, since a ciacona relies more on a
harmonic progression than the constant repetition of a single theme in the bass line.
[6:55]
MO
- Kellner, Johann Peter: Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan
- Unmitigatingly cheerful chorale setting.
[3:42]
MO
- Stanford, C. V.: St. Patrick's Breastplate, Op. 153 No. 3
- From Sonata 4, "Celtica," this is a fantasy on the hymn, its bold 6/4 rhythm and staticly repositioned chords interspersed with episodes in common
meter and punctuated with fancy finger- and footwork.

MO
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fantasy for Oboe & Organ in F minor
- A consummately beautiful trio for oboe and organ transcribed for 2 virtual consoles.
