Jackson/Brown & Arkley at St. Stephens Anglican, Penrith, NSW, Australia (1877/1977) Samples by Nicholas Appleton
- Dupré, Marcel: Antiphon I, Opus 18, No. 1
- From the collection entitled "Les Vépres de la Vierge" - The Vespers of the Virgin [Mary]. Massive chords, up to one note per finger for 10-fingered
people, against a grand pedal line. Impulse reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (15.2 MB).
[2:24]
HW1
- Dupré, Marcel: Antiphon II, Opus 18, No. 2
- Marked "Tranquillo" and consisting of mostly 3 voice chords with gentle syncopations and many held notes in the pedal. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:58]
HW1
- Dupré, Marcel: Antiphon III, Opus 18, No. 3
- Restful and evocative prelude by an early 20th century French master. Impulse reverberation added.
[3:7]
HW1
- Dupré, Marcel: Antiphon IV, Opus 18, No. 4
- This short scherzo has a sprightly theme which is passed between voices; a rising chromatic passage leads up to a sudden diminution in the manual
volume, with the theme playing out in the pedal until it too comes to a halt. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:21]
HW1
- Dupré, Marcel: Antiphon V, Opus 18, No. 5
- An attractive presentation reflective of its text. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:48]
HW1
- Schumann, Robert: Canon 3, Op. 56
- A brief introduction marked "Andantino" gives way to a lovely duet that is actually a canon at the 5th over a pianistic rhythmic motiv, which gives
way to ascending two-note arpeggios, then reverts to the former style and ends as it begun, with a short humorous coda. Impulse reverberation added.
[1:58]
HW1
- Gigout, Eugène: Absoute
- No. 3 from Ten Pieces for Organ, this compelling piece evokes the spirit of Louis Vierne. Adapted for two manuals with Swell Oboe 8' used for Anches
de Récit., Swell Principal 4' added for Anches de Positiv, Great Bourdon 16' added for Anches de G.O. It's the thought that counts! Impulse
reverberation added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (39.0 MB).
[7:56]
HW1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Dorian Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 538
- Although unfortunately rivaled in popularity by BWV 565, the Dorian Prelude is a wonderful energetic piece, and the fugue is one of Bach's most
thrilling works, well worth the time it takes to listen to. Impulse reverberation added.
