Bosch-Schnitger Organ, Vollenhove/Overijssel (1686/1720) - Samples by Prof. Helmut Maier
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Praeludium in D Major, BuxWV 139
- Several contrasting textures and moods show Buxtehude's engaging spontaneity, this Prelude is as close to a recorded improvisation as we could hope
for.
[5:16] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3.1
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Valet will ich dir geben, BWV 735
- Fantasia on the German funeral tune which is often used in American churches with the words "All Glory, Laud and Honor" for Palm Sunday processions,
for full Hoofdwerk and Pedaal coupled to Rugpositief Dulciaan 8'.
[3:12] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Buxtehude, Dietrich: Ich ruf zu dir, BuxWV 196
- Somewhat atypical setting for two more or less equal voices and non-cantus pedal with subtly varying meter and texture changes. Registration: RH
Hoofdwerk Prestant 8' + Fluit 4' B&D + Fluit 2' B&D'; LH Rugpositief Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Nasard 3' + Woudfluit 2''; PD Subbas 16' + Prestant
8'.
[3:4] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Bach, Johann Sebastian: Aus tiefer Noth schrei' ich zu dir, BWV 686
- The rich 4-part tapestry on the manuals is penetrated by a double canon of the chorale subject, a German chorale whose text is based on Psalm 130, De
Profundis ("Out of the Depths"). Hoofdwerk Prestant 8' + Bourdon 8' + Octaaf 4; [Double] Pedaal Trombone 8'; repeat Rugpositief Holpijp 8' + Fluit 4'.
Pedaal coupled from Hoofdwerk Vox Humana 8' + Bourdon 8' + Tremulant. Revert to fiorst registrtion.
[5:10] (a=420 Hz)

- Beautifully ornamented Chorale with two manual and one pedal voices in support. RH Chorale on RP Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Octaaf 2' + Woodfluit 2' +
Sesquialter II Stervk; LH on HW Prestant 8' + Bourdon 8' + Fluit 4'; PD Subbas 16' + Prestant 8'; Repeat LH on RP Holpijp 8' + Fluit 4'; RH Chorale on
HW Prestant 8' + Vox Humana 8' + Fluit 4'; PD remove Prestant and add Holfluit 8', Tremulants on both divisions; revert to first registration
[2:37] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt

[4:4] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Strungk, Delphin: Lass mich dein sein und bleiben
- Very slightly ornamented Chorale, better known as the Passion Chorale, on the Hoofdwerk (Bourdon 8' + Octaaf 4' + Octaaf 2' + Cornet 4 sterck (8'
changes to Rohrfluit, Prestant + Bourdon, Prestant + Bourdon + Rohrfluit in subsequent phrases, but all with Tremulant), with motives derived from the
Chorale on the Rugpositief Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Octaaf 2' and Pedaal Subbas 16' + Prestant 8' + Octaaf 4'
[1:53] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3

in 12/8 Time Rugpositief Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Woudfluit 2' + Mixtuur 4 sterck; Pedaal Subbas 16' + Prestant 8'; Section 3 in Common Time HW
Rohrfluit 8' + Fluit 4' + Cimbel 4-6 sterck; for ending add Mixtuur 4' + Trompet 8' (Pedaal Bazuin 16').
[6:50] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Schönbach, Patrick: Macht hoch die Tür
- Marked Freudig bewegt, the opening interval of the Chorale is used as the basis for five modulating 5-voice interludes on the Hoofdwerk (Rohrfluit 8'
+ Octaaf 4' + Fluit 2') and Pedaal (Subbas 16' + Prestant 8' + Holfluit 8' + Octaaf 4') that alternate with the three sections of the actual chorale,
soaring high on the Rugpositief (Holpijp 8' + Sexquialter 2 sterck +
Dulciaan 8') and supported by three cheerful voices on the Hoofdwerk and Pedaal. Published here with express permission of the composer.
[1:49] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Praeludium et Fuga in C, Br I:01
- The prelude starts with virtuosic manual flourishes followed by a long pedal solo, then a long series of modulations with a few Krebsian quirks to let
you know it's not Bach or Buxtehude. The fugue in 12/8 meter is based on a 3-measure dance-like motiv with a characteristic trill. Registration
changes in the Fugue principally address the Pedal, but manual contrasts are fully utilized to showcase the subject.
[8:46] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon: Erbarm dich mein, o Herre Gott
- Spectacular in its own way, this set of six variations has medieval sounding harmonies, sudden rapid note onslaught, and one relentless beat per
measure. First variation on Hoofdwerk Prestant 8' + Octaaf 4' + Octaaf 2'; second on Rugpositief Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Octaaf 2' +
Mixtuur 4 Sterck with Pedal Trombone 8'; for third variation Mixtuur 2-4 Sterck was added to HW, Octaaf 4' and Bazuin 16' to PD; for 4th
variation Cimbel 4-6 Sterck was added to HW, Subbas 16' and Prestant 8 were added and Trombone and Octaaf were withdrawn from PD; for 5th
variation HW Prestant 8' + Octaaf 4' + Cornet 4 Sterck + Trompete 8', RP Holpijp 8' + Nasard 3' + Sesquialter 2 Sterck + Dulciaan 8'; for 6th
variation Cimbel was added to HW, Octaaf 2' + Mixtuur were added, Sesquialter withdrawn from RP, Pedal at end was Subbas 16' + Prestant 8' +
Bazuin 16' + Trombone 8'.
[9:58] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Weckmann, Matthias: Fantasia in D minor
- Three sections: Moderato in Common Time on Hoofdwerk, reeds added at end; Piõ mosso in 3/4 meter on Rugpositief gradually adding stops coupled from
the Hoofdwerk; and Allegro in Allabreve with triplets over organ poiunts in the Pedaal.
[5:24] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Krebs, Johann Ludwig: Fantasia et Fuga in F, Br II:07
- The Fantasia, with its percussive rolled chords and bold pedal part, was written for three manuals but adapted to two using general combinations. A
slight correction was made in Ms. 4-5, The fugue subject is quaintly off kilter rhythmically and recognizable from its use of the turn, a seldom used
baroque ornament.
[5:50] (a=420 Hz)
HW2>3
- Scheidt, Samuel: Wir glauben all' an einen Gott
- Though it starts like a 3 voice fughetta between Rugpositif (Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Nasard 3' + Octaaf 2' + Mixtuur 4 Sterck) and Pedal (Subbas
16' + Prestant 8' + Octaaf 4' + Trombone 8'), the Chorale is soon sounded boldly on the Hoofdwerk (Prestant 8' + Bourdon 8' + Octaaf 4' + Octaaf 2' +
Cornet 4 Sterck + Cimbel 4-6 Sterck). Original tuning.
[2:38] (a=420 Hz)
