Three sections: the first, on the two manuals coupled, has some rapid ornamentation ending with a pedal point over which first inversion arpeggios descend. The second section on the Positif, is like a fugue with a jaunty little subject and ends with sequential arpeggios, interrupted by section 3 (same registration as #1) with rapid fire scale passages followed by a calm ending and Pedal for the final cadence. Registration: Positif Bourdon 8' + Flutte 4' + Nazart 2-2/3' + Doublet 2' + Fourniture 2 St. coupled to G,O. Holpijp 8' + Prestant 4' + Quart Nazard 2' + Fourniture 3 St.; Pedaal Bourdon 16' (G.O.) + Bourdon 8' (Positif). Temperament: Organ-Silbermann. [3:10] Midi file available. HW3.11
Bach, Johann Sebastian: Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten, BWV 647Download View Lyrics
This Schübler chorale is a transcription from the fourth verse of Cantata 93, in which Soprano and Alto sing the lilting upper part (RH: Positif Bourdon 8' + Prestant 4' + Doublet 2' [for repeat omit Prestant, afterwards add Prestant 4' and Nazart 2-2/3'] ) over a basso continuo (G.O. Bourdon 16' + Montre 8' + Flutte 4' [for repeat replace Montre with Holpijp 8' and omit Flutte, afterwards Montre 8' and Prestant 4' replace 8' and 4' flutes] ), violins and violas carry the Chorale (Pedal Clarion 4' [G.O.], repeat with Prestant 4' from G.O. and Pos., afterwards Clarion 4' and Prestant 4' [G.O.]. Kellner Temperament. [2:42] Midi File Available HW3.30
Brahms, Johannes: Fuge für die OrgelDownload
A 2-measure chromatic fugue subject with a recognizable 3-note component is presented both rectus (right-side-up) and inversus (up-side-down), some softer interludes on the Positif provide welcome relief from the sternness. The work was published in 1864, much earlier than his other organ music. Possibly it is so dark because of the recent death of his friend Robert Schumann. Registration: Positif Bourdon 8' + Flutte 4' coupled to G.O. Montre 8' + Holpijp 8' + Flutte 4', Pedal Bourdon 16' + Montre 8' (G.O.) + Nazart 2-2/3' (withdrawn for organ points in pedal). Martinus Temperament. [5:2] Midi File Available HW3.30
