KPFK ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION OF AN ONSITE SOLAR CANOPY
Pacifica Radio KPFK Los Angeles Walks the Progressive Talk, Embarking on a Clean and Independent
Energy Project
November 22, 2010 – North Hollywood, CA. Pacifica Radio KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles signed an
agreement with SunGreen Systems today, initiating the first solar energy project for a radio
station in Los Angeles. Once funds are raised, a parking-lot based solar photovoltaic canopy
system will be installed at the KPFK studios in North Hollywood. The system will reduce KPFK’s
energy costs by an estimated 31%, supplying the building with an off-grid energy source. With
a relatively short production time, the project is scheduled for completion in March of 2011.
SunGreen Systems ( http://www.sungreensystems.com ) provides solar energy solutions to resi-
dential and commercial customers. Based in Irwindale, California, the SunGreen Systems team
consists of architects, real-estate developers and solar-energy experts.
Says SunGreen Chairman Y.Y. Lin, “We’re honored to help make KPFK the first public radio station
in Southern California to power its facilities with sunlight. It’s a natural fit, since both
SunGreen and KPFK actively promote community interests and clean energy.”
Actor and environmental advocate Ed Begley Jr. has agreed to lend his assistance in getting the
word out as KPFK begins the necessary fundraising for this building improvement. On KPFK going
solar, Ed says, “I know that solar works, because it's been powering my house and charging my
car since 1990. Thank you, KPFK, for leading the way yet again by going solar.”
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Mike Papantonio and David Bender of the recently incorporated radio
program Ring of Fire Radio stated, “Clean solar power is a critical component of a decarbonized
American energy future - one that creates new jobs, unleashes technical innovations, and ensures
America's energy security. We at Ring of Fire Radio are proud to be part of the KPFK and
Pacifica family. And we congratulate you for becoming the first public radio station to go
solar in Southern California – where, we are reliably informed, it never rains."
The solar canopy system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions equal to planting 18.4 acres of
trees. The annual carbon reduction estimates include:
- 165 pounds of nitrous oxide from western coal
- 56,941 pounds of carbon dioxide from western coal
- 36,442 pounds of carbon dioxide from natural gas
The SunGreen-designed system will be manufactured domestically and qualify as a domestic end
product under the Buy America Act (BAA) and as a domestic manufactured product under the
America Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
“We hope to set an example to our community and listeners,” said KPFK Operations Director Zuberi
Fields. “Not only do we create an off-grid energy source, but we show our neighbors the value
of committing to the environment through renewable energy.”
The project should be completed in March 2011. The signing ceremony took place Monday, November
22. More information about the project can be found at www.KPFK.org . To cover the costs of the
system, KPFK is soliciting tax-deductible donations through the website: http://bit.ly/cb4vS3

1-2 Alex Carey: “Corporations and Propaganda, The Attack on Democracy”
‘This is TUC Radio's all time most popular program. I'm re-broadcasting it once every
two years. Each time I'm amazed and a bit shaken how contemporary it remains.’
– Maria Gilardin
Alex Carey wrote that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive,
3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining
democracy and destroying the unions. The 20th century, he wrote, is marked by three historic
developments: the growth of democracy via the expansion of the franchise, the growth of
corporations, and the growth of propaganda to protect corporations from democracy. Carey’s
unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era.
Part two covers the little known role of the US Chamber of Commerce in the McCarthy witch
hunts of post WWII. Carey also shows how the continued campaign against "Big Government"
played an important role in bringing Reagan to power.
Noam Chomsky dedicated his book “Manufacturing Consent” to the memory of Alex Carey. Chomsky
says that the Australian sociologist would have written the definitive history of propaganda
in the US, had he lived to complete his work. This is a fairly complex production with many
voices, historic sound clips, and source material. The program has been used by writers and
students of history and propaganda. Alex Carey: Taking the Risk out of Democracy, Corporate
Propaganda VS Freedom and Liberty with a foreword by Noam Chomsky was published by the
University of Illinois Press in 1995. From TUC Radio, 1 (707) 463-2654, www.tucradio.org

Revealing the Driving Forces Behind World Events and Creating Alternative Solutions
Talk 5: David Ray Griffin
David Ray Griffin is Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Theology, Emeritus, at Claremont
School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University, and a co-director of the Center for
Process Studies. He is the author of 36 books, nine of which are on 9/11. His most complete
statement about 9/11, ‘The New Pearl Harbor Revisited,’ was a Publishers Weekly “Pick of
the Week” in November 2008. His most recent book is ‘The Mysterious Collapse of World Trade
Center 7: Why the Final Official Report about 9/11 Is Unscientific and False.’ In a 2009 New
Statesman article entitled “The 50 People Who Matter Today,” he was listed as Number 41 by
virtue of lending a “sheen of respectability” to “one of the most pernicious global myths”
of our time, which “appeals to people at the highest levels of government.”
Peter B Collins talks one on one with Prof. David Ray Griffin, focusing on the two most recent
of his 35 books: ‘The Mysterious Collapse of World Trade Center 7: Why the Final Official
Report About 9/11 is Unscientific and False’ and ‘Osama bin Laden, Dead of Alive?’’ Building 7
is the gateway to busting the myths of 9/11 embraced by the discredited 9/11 Commission.
Dr. Griffin talks about how Van Jones was vilified just for signing a petition calling for a
new investigation, and about the effort to pass a NYC referendum enabling a new inquiry.
He offers many examples of the NIST reports exaggerations and fabrications, and concludes
that WTC was brought down in a controlled demolition. In the bin Laden book, he details all
of the reports of bin Laden’s death, evaluates the credibility of video and audio releases
attributed to bin Laden, and concludes that he is probably dead.

2-4:30 The Voice of Hope: Conversations with Aung San Suu Kyi
Read by Alan Clements and Kate Wheeler
If Aung San Suu Kyi could have made this recording herself, there would be no need for it.
Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for her leadership in a nonviolent struggle to end the rule
of dictatorship in Burma, she endured house arrest for 15 of the last 21 years and has just
been released in November. She had faced the possibility of re-arrest at any moment during
these conversations with journalist Alan Clements.
Yet this is no political manifesto. Aung San Suu Kyi speaks of her parents upbringing and her
Buddhist beliefs, of the role of meditation in her life, of the compassion that inspires
her nonviolent activism, of her refusal to fear the SLORC and her inability to hate them.
She is, she insists, no different than the rest of us – and therein may lie her greatest power
to inspire us.
Alan Clements is the author of ‘Burma: The Next Killing Fields?’ and coauthor of ‘Burma’s
Revolution of the Spirit: The Struggle for Democratic Freedom and Dignity.’ Kate Wheeler
was ordained as a nun in Burma by Aung San Suu Kyi’s meditation teacher. She is the author of
‘Not Where I Started From,’ a book of stories. Published by Shambhala Lion Editions,
