Von Gott will Ich nicht lassen, BWV 658 Click to Listen, [3:45] (A=465)
A strong affirmation that nothing can separate us from God, even human free will. This demonstrates two ways to implement a Choral Bass effect on the Reinhardtsgrimma instrument. The Hauptwerk is coupled to the Pedal and first the 4' Oktava is drawn (with Hinterwerk 8' Gedacktes and 4' Rohrfleute playing the other parts), then for the repeat the 4 Spizfleute is drawn and played with the Hinterwerk Rohrfleute alone, a stunning contrast. The earlier registration is resumed when the repeat is finished. Instrument: Gottfried Silbermann Organ, Reinhardtsgrimma / Sachsen, Germany (1731) - Samples by Prof. Helmut Maier

Chorale Text
German:
Von Gott will ich nicht lassen,
denn er lässt nicht von mir,
führt mich auf rechter Strassen,
da ich sonst irret sehr,
reichet mir seine Hand.
Den Abend wie den Morgen
tut er mich wohl versorgen,
sei, wo ich woll, im land.
--Ludwig Helmbold, Erfurt, 1563

English:
From God shall naught divide me,
For he is true for aye,
And on my path will guide me,
Who else should often stray,
His ever bounteous hand
By night and day is heedful,
And gives me what is needful,
Where'er I go or stand.
--Catherine Winkworth, 1863
