Fugue in Eb, Br II:12 Click to Listen, [2:8]
A cheerful little fugue subject with occasional syncopations. There are three playful false entrances in the tenor voice about halfway through, each followed with a correct entrance in the bass (pedal). It ends with a pedal point and final statements of the fugue subject in alto and soprano voices. Registration: HW P8 + O4 + N3 + S2 + Mix, RP Q4, PD S16 + OB8 + II/P. At one point the pedal part exceeded the keybord compass, so it was transposed down an octave, and the registration changed to RP C4 + P2 +O1, PD O8 + II/P. For the final organ point (long Eb in the PD), the RP was changed to CD + C4 to give a little more body. For a popup table of these abbreviations, click here. Midi File available. Instrument: Renaissance Organ (ca. 1587) in gothic church in Smecno, Czech Republic - Samples by Jiri Zurek
