Though it contains the usual Regerisms (pumping up and down of swell pedals, chromatic adventurism and odd syncopations), it is a very strict canon at
the seventh, with a delay of 2 beats that narrows between measures 14 and 15 to one beat. The overall effect is eerily modern, even ear-cleansing.
