- Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten, BWV 647
[3:32]
This Schübler chorale is a transcription from the fourth verse of Cantata 93. Registration here is unusual: The top two-three voices are played an
octave higher on the Great, the left hand provides a pseudo bass part based on the 16' Bourdon, and the Chorale is played in the Pedal coupled to the
Swell. Impulse reverberation has been added. WAV file is available in RAR format: here (18.2 MB).

German:
1. Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten
Und hoffet auf ihn allezeit.
Den wird er wunderlich erhalten
In aller Not und Traurigkeit;
Wer Gott, dem Allerhöchsten, traut,
Der hat auf keinen Sand gebaut.
4. Er kennt die rechten Freudenstunden,
Er weiss wohl wann es nützlich sei.
Wenn er uns nur hat treu erfunden
Und merket keine Heuchelei,
So kommt Gott, eh' wir's uns versehen,
Und lässet uns viel Gut's geschehn.
--Georg Neumark, 1657
English:
1. If thou but suffer God to guide thee,
And hope in Him through all thy ways,
He'll give the strength what'er betide thee,
And bear thee through the evil days.
Who trusts in God's unchanging love
Builds on a rock that naught can move.
4. God knows full well when times of gladness
Shall be the needful thing for thee.
When He has tried thy soul with sadness
And from all guile has found thee free,
He comes to thee all unaware
And makes thee own His loving care.
