- Jesu, meines Lebens Leben, BWV 1107
[1:27] (a=460 Hz)
A playful romp totally at odds with the doleful text (Rohrfluit 8' + Vox Humana 8' + Sesquialt (Discant & Bass). The meter switches to 12/8 in the
middle (Rohrfluit 8' + Principael 4' + Gedact Quint 3' + Octav 2'). The chorale melody bounces around from voice to voice, finally landing in the
Pedaal (Subbass 16' coupled to Manuaal).

- Chorale Text
German:
Jesu, meines Lebens Leben,
Jesu, meines Todes Tod,
Der du dich für mich gegeben
In die tiefste Seelennot,
In das äusserste Verderben,
Nur daß ich nicht möchte sterben:
Tausend, tausendmal sei dir,
Liebster Jesu, Dank dafür!
English:
Christ, the Life of all the living,
Christ the Death of death, our foe,
Who Thyself for us once giving
To the darkest depths of woe,
Patiently didst yield Thy breath
But to save my soul from death;
Praise and glory ever be,
Blessèd Jesus, unto Thee.
